The fourth phase of the "Ideological and Political Lectures" of the School of Marxism opened smoothly on March 26. Researcher Jiang Zhongxiao, editor-in-chief of Guangdong Social Science Magazine, gave an academic report entitled "Topic Selection and Writing Standards of Social Science Papers" for teachers and students of our school.

Editor-in-chief Jiang shared his personal experience with the on-site teachers and students on three aspects, including topic selection, writing specifications and submission notes.

He believes that the topic selection of the thesis can be divided into four types: "Extended the general election”, “Make a mountain out of a molehill”, “Focus on the small topics”, “Make a big fuss over a minor issue”, among them, "Expanding the General Election Topics" requires deep theories and rich vision to support, and is the most valuable for research; the most taboo is to "Make a big fuss over a minor issue", the topics are vague and weak, so we should try our best to avoid them; the general level of research can start from the two less demanding levels of "focusing on small topics" and "making a mountain out of a molehill". In particular, "Make a mountain out of a molehill" paper, can make the thesis meaningful and solve practical problems, which have very practical value for the subject itself. In terms of academic standards, we should consider targeted and flexible submissions, but we should not publish one manuscript multiple times, let alone banning plagiarism, and we must adhere to good academic character. In order to ensure that papers are valued during the review process, special attention should be paid to distinguishing the content and style of the journals submitted, and the details of the mail delivery method, so as to attract the attention of editors and reviewers and increase the probability of publication.

In the report meeting, from the paper writing itself to the industry standards, the editor-in-chief Jiang spoke eloquently, and condensed his personal experience of many years into several clear points, which can make people grasp the key of academic paper writing and publication, and make people deeply enlighten and inspire.
